Spider-Man 3 review - Spider-Goth!

It was a wet Bank Holiday Monday yesterday, so it seemed like a good day to go to the movies to see Spider-Man 3. Unfortunately so did everyone else, so the cinema was a bit full, filled with annoying children constantly talking (how dare people bring children to see Spider-Man!) and yobs/chavs who like to rustle their popcorn during the quiet/emotional scenes. The fact that there are other people who can ruin your viweing enjoyment, the excessive adverts before the movie and the rip-off price of a movie ticket is really annoying and really makes my enjoy the VOD (video on demand) option of buying/watching movies when you want off the internet.
Anyway, let's get back to Spider-Man 3! I liked it, but I also didn't like it. You would have a good scene but then it was followed by a terribly acted or unnecessary scene (Did nearly every character cry at some point during the film?). You would have a great bit of special effects (like the Sandman reforming) and then you would have a CGI'd fight scene whenre you had no idea what was going on because it was too fast. (Spider-Man also seems to be able to survive being smashed into buildings, roads, glass etc and just have a few rips to his costume.) I liked the story of Peter Parker being corrupted and going dark (complete with his goth-like black floppy hair) and the anti-Peter character of Eddie Brock, but this only started about halfway through the movie. (The dark Peter/Spider-Man also reminded my a bit of the dark Superman in Superman 3!) I can see what they were trying to do with each character but they took too long and there were too many characters to do it effectively. While the Sandman was visually interesting, his role in the film was unnecessary, especially linking him to Uncle Ben's deah from the first film. Because of this, the charcter of Venom got less screentime that he deserved. The storylines involving MJ and Harry Osborn could also have been reduced in length. I guess what I'm saying is that some more editing was needed to make this a shorter, sharper movie!
One other thing that I've also noticed in these three Sam Raimi directed Spider-flicks, and it really stood out in Spidey 3, is that he really likes to populate his crowd scenes with attractive female extras, so much so that it is distracting. I truly doubt that the streets of New York are really filled with super-models!

I went on a wet bank holiday to the angel cinemas also - strangely i didn't see my brother there, although i was hoping to....

I saw pirates of the caribbean instead and wanted to say that the degradation of moral values in society is now complete. This was a '12' film and within minutes of the film beginning someone was shot through the head. The cinema was full of kids aged 4-10 and then they watched a show where eeryone was being hacked to bits.

In the interval i saw a little hoodie (age 6) spit in the sink then do a stupid hoodie gesture to the mirror and say 'come on muthafucka' to his mate.

It's a disgrace. Can Doc hard please invent a virus to kill of all these stupid chavs please; there would be a lot less crime and taxes would go down as we stopped supporting fat stupid sloth people.

End of rant. opera man
